The style of electric fireplace

Apr 24, 2023

Electric fireplaces are generally divided into two styles: linear and traditional.
Linear fires are long and thin. The frames around the viewing area on newer models are minimal, but some styles have larger borders. With depths ranging from 4 to 12 inches, almost all of our linear fireplaces are designed to be installed flush into the wall. There are also a few that can be installed on the surface of the wall, where cutting into the wall or building out a frame for the fireplace is not possible or desirable. Many manufacturers do not include any brackets that allow in-wall units to be mounted on the wall, so don't assume that all linear fireplaces can be installed on the wall.

Linear fireplaces will be available with a variety of interior media options, including clear crystals, driftwood or birch logs, or a combination of the two. Flames can be yellow/orange in color or multicolored. In general, they have a more modern appearance than traditional inserts.
Linear fireplaces are becoming increasingly popular as more people mount their televisions above the fireplace. Because of the wide range of sizes available in linear electric fireplaces (from 34 to 120 inches), there is a size to balance any size TV placed above.
Traditional fires are rectangular in shape. They are typically designed to look like a wood-burning or gas fire, complete with logs in a grate. However, there are more modern options, such as crystals, driftwood, and stones. Depths range from 8 to 16 inches, and these are clearly intended to be installed against a wall or cabinet. The widths range from 24 to 45 inches. Flames are typically yellow/orange in color, but some have changing flames that include blue and violet, as well as accent lighting features that add colors from above or below the flames.
