An electric fireplace insert is a type of electric fireplace that can be installed in an existing open fireplace or frame to mimic the appearance and feel of a real fireplace.
The following electric fireplaces are classified as 'inserts':
Plug-in electric fireplaces
Built-in electric fireplaces
Electric fireplace logs
Plug-in electric fireplace inserts are typically used to convert a wood-burning fireplace to an electric fireplace.
Built-in electric fireplace inserts are more permanent than plug-in inserts and can be used in walls and installations such as entertainment centers, as well as in existing fireplaces.
Electric fireplace log set inserts are intended to be installed on the base (hearth) of your open fireplace to simulate a fireplace grate with burning logs. Log inserts, unlike plug-in and built-in inserts, do not take up the entire opening of an open fireplace.
