A fireplace insert is essentially a fireproof box made of cast iron or steel. The front of a fireplace insert is made of insulated glass, so you can enjoy it just like a traditional wood-burning fireplace.

The closed combustion system created by a fireplace insert traps heat. The heat is then pushed into the room by a blower or fan. Because heat is not lost during the exchange, this system is often much more efficient than a traditional fireplace alone.
