Do Electric Fireplaces Use a Lot of Electricity?

Oct 24, 2023

Electric fireplaces use about the same amount of energy as a typical space heater. Because most fireplaces are powered by a standard household outlet, they use 120 volts to power the internal heater, which draws approximately 1,500 watts at 12.5 amps.

When considering potential energy savings, a fireplace can be an even more efficient option. The use of an electric fireplace in a living space reduces the need for heat from other sources. Allowing an efficient electric fireplace to take over some of the heating responsibilities can result in lower total energy consumption than using the home's primary heating source alone.
