Do Electric Fireplaces Need A Vent?
Jun 15, 2023
Electric fireplaces don't require a vent, chimney, or flue.
They do not emit smoke or toxins from combustion because they do not burn fuel. However, there are a few electrical requirements.
Most electric fireplaces have grounded 120-volt plugs for safety. As a result, they only require a 120-volt outlet to operate.
However, this outlet must be on a separate circuit breaker or fuse. These power requirements correspond to the outlets found in the majority of homes.
Some larger fireplace models require higher voltages and 240-volt plugs. These also have higher wattages, resulting in more heat production. If you choose a larger model, make sure you have a compatible outlet that can handle the extra power.
